Stop C-10

I have been meaning to write about this subject lately but I have putting it off, so here it is. The Conservative government led by Stephen Harper is trying to pass censorship on the arts in Canada via a tax law, this is clearly an attack on artistic freedom.
The Canadian government helps with film/arts financing in Canada and many productions count on this aide. Now via this bill, that they hope to make into a law, the government will decide which films and projects are morally good for Canadians and give financing preference to those types of projects.
In my book this is called censorship and an unclear division of church and state. The government with this law is trying to set a moral compass for Canadians its seems.
In my opinion this government has always been very friendly with the religious right in Canada and that is especially true in their homebase of Alberta where many of these groups are based. It is not surprising that these religious groups are in favor of Bill C-10. The religious right has way too much influence on this government.
This morning the G&M newspaper reports that the finance minister is saying that amending this bill could lead to a confidence vote for the government. I think that this is a good idea so that the subject can be debated further.
People also need to write to their MPs and Senators to put an end to this sneaky attempt at censorship. We need to make our voices heard to keep artistic freedom alive in Canada.
